Forgive my absence, for I'm still fighting the strange sickness of Lindsay Lohan (seriously, refer to my previous posts if you still don't get that joke.) Not to worry, I've still managed to consume all TV related amazingness aka "The Privacy" speech (Jodie Foster), the premiere of The Carrie Diaries (the music!), the premiere of Girls season 2 (Donald Glover!) and even watched the first full season of The Lying Game (ABC Family, season 1 available on Netfilx Instant View. It's not THAT bad).
Actually, when one is conflicted with the Lindsay, one is able to watch way too much TV.
My confliction isn't allowing my brain to be detailed on reviews or even really care about them at all. But, I will say, I think I'm the only one who really enjoyed Jodie Foster's speech. I applaud her. That's all.
Moving on. I once read about a CW TV show called Cult. I was very excited about the concept when I read about it, like 9 months ago. Well, I'm too happy now that it has a trailer.
I'm very much into this social commentary on our addictions to TV and reality TV (refer to my Hunger Games Post). This show seems to be encompass it all. Watch the trailer. Can't see it? Click Here.

Feeling Good and Other Weekly Updates
Now for all my weekly thoughts that I was unable to blog about due to 'plastic surgery' mishaps. (That's a joke, I really was sick)
- Dance Moms - Holy shit. Abby went and done it! In one of my favorite scripted reality TV moments the Dance Moms staged a silent protest against Abby. What did Abby do? She said, 'fuck 'um, I'll get a whole other dance team.' Brilliance!! I don't even care if the original team comes back next week or not, that episode is a true reminder why we subject ourselves to scripted reality TV.
- American Horror Story: Asylum - Two weeks in a row this show has delivered in a such a way that I take back all the negative I said in the begging. No spoilers, but a hint; vindication is beautiful, especially with a cigarette dancing in the fingers. Only 1 episode left! Oh my. I've already bought a ticket to whatever ride Ryan Murphy takes me on next season. And my theory is proving itself: Ryan Murphy makes incredible season 1s.
- Nashville - I've been listening to the soundtrack for days leading up to the winter premiere so I was very excited for the episode. It was good. No OMG, best moment ever, kind of episode. However, they did give us a new song. And I loved it:
- Pretty Little Liars - it's back. When I watch the episodes, I'm good. I follow the convoluted, twisted story pretty well. But, never ask me to tell you what happened, unless, of course, it was a mind blowing, "A" revealing episode. This show is addictive, I love watching it, but I never remember what I watched until the next episode. I'd say that is a good and a bad thing.
- Monk - Yeah, I know Monk is no longer on air, but it is on Netflix and I've been watching a lot of eps during my swollen Lindsay Lohan debacle. I'm sorry I dismissed this show while it aired. It's funny and Tony Shalhoub deserved every Emmy he won.
- Bonnie McKee - Just watch (on computer) if you are viewing via ipad or iphone Click Here!
- Lastly, and most exciting: Justin Timberlake is teasing us with new music. It's been 6 years since his last solo album and virtually zero talk of a new album. Just yesterday he surprised the world with this little tidbit:
Happy weekend folks. I will be watching some movies this weekend in preparation for my Oscar rants. Today: Life of Pi. Review to follow.

My face swells up (literally) and I forget Oscar nominations came out!
Yesterday
I awoke looking like a bad version of Lindsay Lohan. Yes, I just said
'a bad version.' My face was swollen and lips looked like a bad case of
injections. Just look at me! I look like
I
went to the doctor, got a shot for having an allergic reaction to
something and then spent the rest of the day with my head in a hole and
then just went to bed. I woke this morning, still a bad version of
Lindsay, showered, stared at my Beverly Hills Housewives lips and then received at text from my friend Chris Lyon asking
my thoughts on the nominations. My faux lips fell open: How the Hell
did I forget that nominations were happening? It's a first for me in
over a decade. Shame. I feel a tiny twinge of shame, but I'll blame it
on my Lindsay Lohan look alike phase. Moving on to the good stuff: Oscar Nominations!
The nominations were mostly what I expected. With a few exceptions!

Sky Ferreira (aka Fiona Jr.) performs on Jimmy Fallon and makes Why Not Mindy a happy girl
No real introduction needed. I have mentioned this girl before, here's another chance to listen to Sky, who I've dubbed Fiona Jr. It's about damn time we got a 2nd generation Fiona. Happy day.

Say what you will, I don't mind, cause Bunheads deliverers. Yep, I said that
Bunheads is, in my mind, a spin off of Gilmore Girls. In actuality it isn't, but none the less Amy Sherman Palladino (creator of both shows) gives me what I miss from Gilmore Girls and mixes it with dance. What could possibly be wrong with Bunheads? Nothing. Tonight we welcome back the series from it's summer premiere loaded with perfect, witty, fast dialogue and a great opener. This show is highly over looked, perhaps because it is on ABC Family? I call to all Gilmore fans, watch this show. It's quirky fun nature filled with heart makes for such an enjoyable viewing experience.
Below is the opening of tonight's premiere. I loved it so much that I used my iPad to record it.
Enjoy. And to you non believers, I say, sometimes we all need idyllic settings with lovable, imperfect characters.
Revenge got some more Revenge, but do I care?
Trying to bring the New Year in with a Revenge-riffic episode, Emily and Co. just managed to deliver more of the same. There was one happy development of allies, but, of course, who can really be allies with Emily? I beg of the network, the show runner, the writers; please get rid of the whole Jack side story. It's lame. It's boring. And it offers nothing to the semi-descent show. In fact, it is weighing down what good is left. Season 1 was so on point and easy to follow. Now, everything and everyone is so convoluted that it's becoming easier to shrug my shoulders and just not care. Someone needs to check this Hampton ship before some one wrecks it. That's all I have to say about that.

Revenge coming back tonight: Please be good.
This 2nd season of Revenge has been a little lackluster, at least compared to season 1. I'm desperately wanting the second half of this season to kick it up a bit.
Tonight's episode needs to pass my test in order to stay on my 'must watch now' list.
Stay tuned for my thoughts. And tune in tonight to ABC @ 8/9 pm.

Addition to my films you should have seen in 2012....
Once upon a time I heard of the flick Butter which was being filmed in my current living location of Shreveport, LA. At the time I was totally stoked for the film starring Jennifer Garner and Ty Burell (Modern Family). And then somehow this movie got lost. It didn't receive great reviews and spent a very limited time at the theater. Tonight I discovered the movie on Netflix Instant View and let me say, it was damn funny. I don't get the bad reviews, really, cause it was a wonderful dark comedy with exceptional performances by Jennifer Garner and the oh so attractive Olivia Wilde. So I am officially adding the film to my "films not enough people saw in 2012."
A. Olivia Wilde is wonderfully dirty and funny.
B. Jennifer Garner plays a role I feel she was destined to play; an uptight mid-western housewife with dreams of power.
Watch this movie with an open mind and be ready to laugh, cause all the ingredients are there. Especially if you enjoy dark humor. Hell, the movie is about butter carving. Can you get more obscure? 2 thumbs up for surprising me. I went into this film thinking it would suck, but alas, it made me laugh. What more could you ask for?

Hunger Games watched again....
So I watched Hunger Games again. First time through I was okay with the flick. I had read half the book and knew the general story line, so it was what is was. Now knowing that book 2 is soon to be released as movie 2, I'm way more intrigued. I have NO idea what is to come for Katniss or Peta, and I'm damned curious. However, the story reminds me of my favorite Stephen King novella "The Long Walk." I read that piece when I was a mere 20 years old and it has never left my thoughts, nor has my stomach churning changed. King's story is somewhat similar in the fact that the world watches as the youth fights for life. King's story far surpasses this first Hunger Games book, but I still look forward to how Hunger Games progresses.
Once upon a time, King's "The Long Walk" was optioned for a movie with Frank Darabont attached. But I've heard no more about that wonderful fantasy. Perhaps too good to be true? Maybe for me. What I love most about both these stories is the social commentary on our obsessive nature of reality TV. I'm a victim to such, so I call no one out on their secret love. My thought, my question is, how far will we go in our actual reality TV watching?
Would you watch a Katniss character try and kill others her age or a 12 yr. old boy walk so long and watch his friends drop dead beside him? I say, it's all a matter of time. We are but animals disguised in designer clothes and too expensive make up.

The Holidays finally end and American Horror Story says "What? I'm awesome."
The Holidays. They come sweeping in, something akin to a mass hysteria with the shopping, traffic, and the changing of a year. My TV shows take a pause. Movies become "Oscar Worthy," and my Entertainment Weekly's get lost in the mail. All in all, my routine is thrown into a blender. And now it's over.
I'm happy 2013 is here. It will be an epic year for me. I'll be launching my new site: www.whynotmindy.com, making a short film, and making my very first feature film. There are other projects along the way and in between. This is the year. The changing year. But, not to worry, I'll still be blogging about TV, music, and movies. Speaking of TV...
What better way to start my 2013 TV viewing experience, than with the masterful American Horror Story: Asylum. Yeah, I said masterful, because January 2nd's episode was one for the books. It was a doozy. A jaw dropping piece of work that had me shouting, "That's how you start a new year, Motherf***er!" I, again, am not into spoilers or rehashing the episode, so I won't, kind of. So if you haven't watched the episode yet, stop reading....
Jessica Lange's character singing the "The Name Game." Wow. Ryan Murphy made glee happen inside the Asylum. And it was joyous, for that split moment.
That scene is also Ryan Murphy's tease of what he wants to do for season 3, calling it "Evil Glamour." If that is, indeed, his theme for season 3, then I'm as excited for it as I am Season 3 of Homeland or season 8(?) of Dexter (what will Deb do??)
Ryan Murphy you get my trophy. You took me on a roller coaster of hate and love and intrigue. I hate you so much I love you. Or vice versa. Welcome all to 2013.
