Fiona has a new song and it. is. EPIC.

Fiona has written and recorded a new song for the upcoming movie This is 40.
With lyrics like: You don’t kiss when you kiss, you don’t fuck when you fuck
There is nothing better than getting a new Fiona song out of the blue. Oh happy weekend.

You,You don’t kiss when you kiss,
You don’t f*ck when you f*ck
You don’t say what you mean, you don’t talk not enough

Fiona Set List and my thoughts....

Finally seeing Fiona was like a blind kid getting to see for approximately 90 minutes. (maybe that's too hard an analogy, but gather my point)
For a straight 90 minutes Fiona sang, writhed around on the floor, played piano, sang more, but never once talked to the crowd. Fiona is notoriously closed off, anti-social chick, so this came to no surprise to me, but I realize it saddened me just a bit. I was anxious to not only hear her sing, but to be witness to a small, small part of her speaking personality. But let me be clear, Fiona gave her all on that stage. She sang Shadowboxer with the same angst and passion that helped her pen such a perfect song.
Her set list was wonderful, playing songs from every album.
Here is the order:

Fast as you can
On The Bound
Shadowboxer
Paperbag
Anything We Want
Get Gone
Sleep to Dream
Extraordinary Machine
Werewolf
Oh Well
Daredevil
I Know
Every Single Night
Not About Love
Gone Away?? (cover song, never heard before)
Criminal
Another Cover song, never heard it before.

I am nothing but happy with this set list. She played some of my favorites that made me squeal like a pig.
Strange thing: The Nashville crowd was so subdued that it was almost uncomfortable to cheer or move to the music. I say almost because Rob and I did it anyway. It's fucking Fiona people. Get happy! Stupid jaded Nashvillites.
I Know is one of my all time favorite songs, ever. So when Fiona stepped up close to the microphone and the song began, I dropped a few tears of joy, of happiness, of remembrance.
And my sweet, perfect husband captured the whole song via his phone. I hope this can bring you, dear readers, a little pleasure and joy on this Monday afternoon. (Also, that's my voice at the end. LOL. I was happy).
*side note - Sara was with me. I left her floating in that church surrounded by perfect notes and harmony and tune. May she rest*

Obsessive Music

After 7 years of emptiness, Fiona Apple filled me up again. June 19th she released The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.
Have I been pleased? Oh yes oh yes! Plus, I'm on the count down to see her live in Nashville TN. Only 6 days left..... :)
Like all Fiona albums, I listen to each song over and over and over. And every time I find something new and wonderful within each song.
I'm picking Hot Knife to share today because, for me, it is the biggest surprise on the album. It. Is. Superb.
Can't listen? Click Here.

Sometimes I give Fiona a rest and listen to other music. Here is some music that is currently in my rotation.

First, is Some Nights Intro by Fun. You all know Fun. from their overplayed hit We are YoungI liked that song enough to check out their album, which is very Queen-esque. But my favorite is the first two tracks. I do believe that Some Nights is their current single. There is a video and such, but it's the Intro that fucking rocks. And it just so happens that their is a video for that too!!!
I literally cannot listen to it just once. At least twice, but usually three times in a row. It just grabs me.
Favorite lyric: Waiting for catastrophes, imagine when they scare me
Into changing whatever it is I am changing into...

Can't view it? Click Here.

Next song I blame Kelly Clarkson. She sang it on Duets and now I can't stop singing it. Sometimes the country comes out of me and I just let swing free. So Thanks Kelly for introducing me to Miranda Lambert's Mama's Broken HeartThis song is fun. Listen closely to the first line second verse as she pronounces Baptist with a sweet disgust. Masterful.

Lastly is the sugar pop crack that I'm addicted to. Makes me wanna dance, sing, and pretend I have a size 2 ass. I first heard this song about 3 months ago and it is STILL my happy go to song. And the video is memorizing. Kat Graham's Put Your Graffit on Me. I know I've put this video up here before, but I don't think it got across to you all. So Check It Out!

And the Adventure carries on....

Filming went well, better and smoother than my anxious needs could have anticipated. I'm so very pleased and look forward to seeing it all come together as a story during the upcoming editing process.  Updates along way ;)

Fiona Apple released her album today and I've been heavily sedated by her voice and lyrics. She stands in that female hero realm, hanging with the likes of Dorothy Parker, Ayn Rand, and Ani Difranco. That would be a round table discussion that I would literally die for.
As for Fiona's album, I'm over joyed and in love.
I don't "review" music well. It's all about how it makes me feel. And Fiona always makes me swell, with an emotionality that only her music can do.
I am happy to know that I'll be spending my summer with her.

"I'm a tulip in a cup
I stand no chance of growing up
I'm resigned to sail on through
In the wake of tales of you

I root for you, I love you
"

On the Verge...Happiness, mental explosion....you choose

So much is happening and I've had little time to tell you all.
First, Fiona Apple's music video for Every Single Night is now out!
Click HERE to watch her perfection in action. You may have to watch it twice :)

Second. True Blood starts tonight. I'm just twitching in my pants due to the excitement.

Third. Have you all been watching Veep? Julia Louis-Dreyfus literally keeps getting better, especially when she gets to say Fuck a lot. If you have missed this show, watch re-runs, download it on iTunes, buy the season when available. It will be worth your time. Promise.

Fourth. I'm shooting a short in 5 days and have been in pre-production with my Bledska Works partner, Rob. Stress might be involved. A bit. But mostly I'm damn excited. The short is called "I'm Sorry For..." It's a dark comedy.

My posts may be slowed down this week as I endure the last leg before shooting begins. Wish me luck.
Or just visit our Indiegogo site and donate money. :)

4 1/2 days....my countdown to Every Single Night

Tuesday marks the release of Fiona's first single from her new album.
The single is called Every Single Night
My skin is pulsating with excitement.
Here's the cover art and lyrics.
Also take note that I have forced myself to NOT listen to any YouTube live performances of this song. Great things will come to those who are patient. But I do like to tease myself with the lyrics. :)

Every single night I endure the flight
of little whims of white flame
butterflies in my brain
These ideas of mine percolate the mind
trickle down the spines
form the belly swelling to a blaze

That's where the pain comes in
like a second skeleton
trying to fit beneath the skin
I cant fit the feelings in

Every single night's alive
with my brain, brain

What I say to her
Why'd I say it to her
What does she think of me
That I'm not what I ought to be
That I'm what I try not to be
Has got to be somebody else's fault
I can't get caught

If what I am is what I am
'cause I does what I does
Then brother step back 'cause my breast gonna bust open
The rib is the shell and the heart is the yolk
And I just made a meal for us both to choke on

Every single night's a fight
with my brain, brain

I just wanna feel everything
I just wanna feel everything
I just wanna feel everything

So I'm gonna try to be still now
gonna renounce the mill a while
and if we had a double king size bed
we could move in and i'd soon forget

If what I am is what I am
'cause I does what I does
And maybe I'd relax let my breast just bust open
my hearts made of parts of all that's around me
and that's why the devil just cant get around me

Every single night's alright
every single night's a fight
every single fight's alright
with my brain, brain

I just wanna feel everything
