JT left his suit & tie on my floor... and more- :)

During my first few listens of Justin Timberlake's new song Suit & Tie, I just wasn't digging it. And then this lyric video happened.
And I started to swoon and pant cause damn, JT can wear a suit. Officially my favorite lyric video of 2013. I want to add; JT sitting at the piano with a smoke and coffee cup is the kind of picture I'd like to wake up every morning to.

Then this morning I discovered this little gem: Goes to show that Taylor Swift can write some good songs. It's all about delievery. And Tom Odell delivers a song worth really listening to.

Shut Up (Give me whatever u got) - Song of the day

A little new music today from the likes of Amelia Lily, a former UK X factor contestant. This acoustic version blows away the radio version. (Don't they always) I'm diggin' her soul and hope she's more soul than pop. I love a white girl who can sing.

Sky Ferreira (aka Fiona Jr.) performs on Jimmy Fallon and makes Why Not Mindy a happy girl

No real introduction needed. I have mentioned this girl before, here's another chance to listen to Sky, who I've dubbed Fiona Jr. It's about damn time we got a 2nd generation Fiona. Happy day.

Tim Burton's best directing in years....

The Killers have been churning out music videos like they really believe the world will end. I'm very alright with this.
I recently featured The Killers video for "I feel it in my Bones" which rocked my wicked little world.
Now, The Killers have released a video for "Here With Me." I love this song. I love the video. Directed by Tim Burton. I think this to be Tim's best directing in years. I feel an ode to the classic movie Harold and Maude in this video featuring Winona Ryder.
Watch, enjoy the story and the song. And for those of you that may have written off The Killers, give their latest album a chance. It's pretty good.

Fiona 2.0 ??!!!

Are ya a lover of Fiona, like me? Well, I might have just found a young, 2.0 version by the name of Sky Ferreira. Why compare her to Fiona?
1. Jon Brion produced her latest EP Ghosts.
2. Jon Brion wrote with her.
3. When she sings, she sounds, looks, feels the weight of too much.
4. Unique voice.
5. I trust everything Jon Brion is involved in. Check out his credits Here.

Click Here to watch Sky perform Ghost acoustic. On a boat.

She is mesmerizing. You want to hug her, slap her, and then sit back and watch her sing more.

Here are the lyrics to Ghost.
 "Ghost"

I'm not irrational
I'm just no longer in the day dream
Of the delusion that
Once was hard between our love it seems
Lately I've been between
Being steady or a head case
What's become of us now
Hanging our hearts in disgrace

[Chorus:]
What did I do to make you so cruel
I've got this ache inside my heart
I know that it's you
What should I do now that
I know that we're doomed
I loved you most
And now you're a ghost
I walk right through

Oh remember when you said
That I was sick inside the head
I'm just half way there
My common sense hanging by a thread
I'm bad on the outside
But a coward at heart
The taste of salt in my mouth
My voice is silent
But my thoughts are right

[Chorus x2:]
What did I do to make you so cruel
I've got this ache inside my heart
I know that it's you
What should I do now that
I know that we're doomed
I loved you most
And now you're a ghost
I walk right through

Best of Lyrical and Music Videos 2012: Why Not Mindy Style

Growing up and getting a new album on tape the first thing I would do is listen to the album while reading along with the lyrics. My brain wasn't clever enough to pick up on every word without seeing  it. And then somewhere in the mid 90's to the mid 2000's it became "uncool" to include the lyrics with the album. There was this whole transition into digital music and the written word got lost for a bit. Now in days it's easy to find the lyrics to almost any song you want by simply googling it. I thank the universe and all the wonderful geeks who took the time to make my life happier.
And now we are on a trend of lyric videos before the actual video is released. I am a sucker for these. I couldn't be happier. I watch them all. Even if I don't particularly like the song, there maybe some wonderful lines that occur. I'm in love with this trend. I hope it lasts. Music videos have found their way to last. Thanks again internet.
As the year closes I'd like to give some of my favorite lyrical videos and music videos of 2012.

LYRICAL VIDEOS

- Shiny Toy Guns "Somewhere to Hide"

-  Taylor Swift "We are never getting back together"   This lyric video could have been the music video, it's clever and cute, like her damn song.

-  Calvin Harris "Drinking from the Bottle"

-  The Pretty Reckless "Kill Me"

-  Ke$ha "Die Young"

There is an art form behind these lyric videos. Just putting the words on the screen won't work anymore. The bar has been raised. I look forward to 2013 to see who makes my eyes happy. Did you have a favorite lyric video that I missed?

MUSIC VIDEOS

I'm a believer that favorite music videos are about opinions and one's own matter of taste. So don't get all up in a hussy if I pick music videos that don't suit your fancy. These are the videos that I played more than 5 times during the year of 2012.

- Fun. "Some Nights Intro" I could play this every day and be happy.

- P!nk "Try"  Hands down one of the best videos of the year.

- Muse "Madness"  *sigh* I love this song

- Kat Graham "Put Your Graffiti on Me"  - The hottest video that not enough people saw.

- Paloma Faith "Just Be" - Beautiful. Romantic. Lovely.

- Fiona Apple "Every Single Night"

- Lana Del Rey "Ride" - Extended Version - This video is hands down my number one re-watched video. The whole 10 minutes. I love the poetry bookends and the romantic notion of just riding.

"Who are you? Are you in touch with all of your darkest fantasies? Have you created a life for yourself where you can experience them? I have. I am fucking crazy, but I am free." - Lana

The Pretty Reckless is recklessly pretty to my ears

I'm always waiting, expecting, anticipating new music from The Pretty Reckless. It's a group that you just know that each year, with rising age and wisdom, will come bigger and even better music.
Today they debut the new song "Kill Me." After my first listen I'm immediately transported back to my high school angst ridden years and I couldn't be happier. I've been lacking that hard woman vocal reminiscent of Hole. If you are not familiar with The Pretty Reckless, then get to know them. They are a growing force to be reckoned with. I look forward to the day I get to see them in concert.
Light Me Up was their first full album and it is still a staple on my ipod. It is a brilliant album. Buy it.
Or Listen to it @ their website!

Now have a listen to their lastest: Kill Me by clicking here!

Kate Hudson can roll her stockings down anytime!

I'm not one for spoilers, like ever, but sometimes there are exceptions. This exception comes in the form of Glee, Kate Hudson, and an all time favorite song of mine, "All That Jazz." When I read that Kate Hudson's character and Lea Michele's character were going to go head to head with that song, I squealed. So what was I to do when I stumbled upon the full clip today? Be a good girl and wait till Thursday night to watch it in context of the storyline or say 'to hell with context.  It's All That Jazz! Hello!' We all can guess what I did. I watched it. Then I watched it again. And again.
Check it out below or don't. It's up to you. If you don't watch Glee then WATCH it. Reason? Kate Hudson. Kate has been the shining light on an otherwise weird transitional season. In fact, I would love a spin off with Rachel Berry, Kurt, and Kate Hudson. Oh that would be joyous.

Finding NEW in Zee Avi

I LOVE finding new music! I think I might of stumbled across a gem. Name: Zee Avi : 25-year-old Malaysian singer/songwriter. She has a voice that reminds you of simpler times. Soothing, effortless. She lands in the world where your parents could love her and you (the kid) can still feel okay with loving her too.

Check out her video for Concrete Wall from her album Ghostbird.
If you got a kick out of that, then check out her Website to listen to her entire album! I recommend the song Madness.

It's the surprises, the small happenings that bring the light of happiness: aka Rachael Yamagata has new songs!

It's always the best when something wonderful happens out of the blue. There's no waiting, anticipating. You just wake one morning and BAM, Rachael Yamagata blesses you with a 6 song EP called Heavyweight.
A beautiful day for new music.
Review to come soon. Till then go buy her music either on iTunes or at her website :)
Below is the audio for the title track. Enjoy.

Morning Music Videos: For that Hump day

I didn't know Trent Reznor had a new project with Atticus Ross and a beautiful woman. Did you?

Well this new venture is called How to Destroy Angels. The following video from them is called Ice Age. I'm digging this folksiness and I'm in love with the vocals. Check it out below or go HERE and check out the video and their homepage.

Second discovery of the day is a sister band called HAIM. Talented girls rocking out new wave style. I got excited listening/watching them. We don't have enough legitimate women rockers with a flare for the 80's. Check out their video for Don't Save Me. Watch below or click HERE for big version

Lastly, I have to include Will.i.am ft. Britney Spears song Scream & Shout. It's a good club song. Also, Britney is channeling Madonna's British accent and it makes me happy for some reason. Not everything is explainable. The video is just fine. I bet this song makes it onto a lot of workout playlists. Watch below or Click HERE

Paloma Faith Video: Just Be. A song for the romantics

I've become a HUGE fan of Paloma Faith and her album Fall to Grace. She's my new Adele; soulful, poignant, beautiful, English. It's generally what I crave.
Well I'm so happy to announce that Paloma has released the video to my favorite song on the album called Just Be.
Just Be is a modern take on being in love, mixing the downs with the ups and coming out on top. I love the song because it highlights the flaws in love and relationships, and yet still keeps you high on the love. Isn't true love about endurance and patience and together growth?

Fiona has a new song and it. is. EPIC.

Fiona has written and recorded a new song for the upcoming movie This is 40.
With lyrics like: You don’t kiss when you kiss, you don’t fuck when you fuck
There is nothing better than getting a new Fiona song out of the blue. Oh happy weekend.

You,You don’t kiss when you kiss,
You don’t f*ck when you f*ck
You don’t say what you mean, you don’t talk not enough

Weekend Music Videos: 3

This fine weekend deserves a little kick back music video watching fun. I got three for ya.
The first and my favorite for the week, mostly because the song is a sexy mix of a bluesy, pop powerhouse vocals and 90's production,  is South African songstress  Nikki Williams' Kill, Fuck, Marry You. The title alone should be intriguing enough
Next, we have The Weekend's Wicked Games. This sexy slow jam has been on my favorite playlist for about a year. I was very happy to see a video release. The video is smooth and simple. And sexy. Mmmm.
Makes me wanna slow dance. I recommend The Weekend's House of balloons (Official Mixtape)as a nice kicked back R&B album. More Music coming from The Weekend super soon. :)
The last video comes from British ginger Ed Sheeran. The song "Give me Love" is nice and fine and I'll love it for now. I took a real liking to the video. I love story telling through music videos, and this story is neat. I smiled.
Happy weekend.

Reviews: Lotus tastes like Pepsi Cola if history could set you free.

Lotus - Christina Aguilera
Electra Heart - Marina & The Diamonds
Born to Die (Paradise Edition) - Lana Del Rey

What do these three women's album have in common? Sex & empowerment.
Two great words for me.
Let's start with Lotus. Christina has been overtly sexual since, well, Genie in a Bottle. Over time she's lost the subtly and gone straight for the sex punch line.
Example:
"It’s true what you heard, I am a freak, I’m disturbed / So come on and give me your worst / We’re moving faster than slow, / If you don’t know where to go, / I’ll finish off on my own"
There is no hiding what she's singing about. But the good thing about Lotus is, it isn't all about sex. The album has an emotional range from "let's turn down the hate" to "spin around in circles on my middle finger" to "In my own way, regret choices I've made/ How do I say I'm sorry? to "For every time you broke me/There's a thousand faces of me.......Now you're gonna face an army/Army of me." I like Lotus. It's a decent body of work.
Songs I recommend:
Red Hot Kinda Love - it's funky beats are refreshing.
Blank Page - a confessional ballad
Overall I give the album **1/2. She's still hasn't topped her album Back to Basics.

Electra Heart - Marina & The Diamonds
With such a unique voice, it's hard to dislike any syllable that comes out of her mouth.(she is Welsh, so, cool dialect) Plus, her lyrics are cheeky, sexual, and devious. And these are a few of my favorite things!
The opening song Bubblegum Bitch sets the tone for the whole album.
"I’m miss sugar pink liquor, liquor lips/I’m gonna be your bubblegum bitch." Seems vapid? Nope. This song, like the rest of the songs are a commentary on young love, self doubt, sexual empowerment, and the need for fame.
My favorite song on the album is Sex Yeah. Seems like an obvious, right? The song isn't just about sex as in intercourse, but sex as female or male and how "sex" defines women. It's entirely too clever for the weak mind. Lyrics:
If history could set you free (from who you were supposed to be) / If sex in our society (didn't tell a girl who she would be) / 'Cause all my life I've tried to fight what history has given me
Another must listens: Teen Idle, Homewrecker, Hypocrates,.... Ahh hell, just listen to the whole album cause I give it ****. It's on constant repeat.

Born to Die (The Paradise Edition) - Lana Del Rey
So the interweb has been in a frenzy over Lana's song Cola with the opening line of the song she swoons "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola." Instead of using the album art, I had to use this lovely vintage inspired poster. It makes me laugh. Cola as a song is just okay for me. I think mostly because it is in the shadows of other songs. American is a haunting tale of love.
Gods & Monsters is a haunting tale about the loss of innocence. In an ode to Walt Whitman, Body Electric sticks in your head with her melancholy voice repeating "I sing the body electric." Seems like it might be annoying, but it isn't. It's once again, haunting. I don't think Lana is for everyone. But I love her voice and her American references and obvious love of the country. There's just something about this chick that makes me wanna ride :) I give the album ***1/2

European MTV music awards: The ending is coming

I was once under the impression that everything European was more chic, less mainstream, and contained more talent per sq inch than America ever could. Of course, I'm directly referencing music here. But I was sorely disappointed with the European MTV Music Awards. Lose the accents and it may as well been American MTV.

Christina vs. Christina, Jimmy, & The Roots

Christina Aguilera 1st single from her upcoming album Lotus (hits itunes on Nov.13th) is called Your Body. It's a decent song, a fun video, everything you'd expect from Xtina. No real surprises.
But then I saw Xtina, Jimmy Fallon, and The Roots perform the song using only office supplies. Spectacular. It also reminds us how great her voice really is and how talented real musicians are (The Roots).

So watch it HERE ALL BIG AND PRETTY.  Or watch it below.

An Acoustic night with Ansley and Ryan of Super Water Sympathy

Last night I was privileged enough to catch an acoustic performance from Super Water Sympathy. Let me correct myself, cause it was only two members of the band: Ansley (lead singer) and Ryan (drummer).
So how does an acoustic set work with a singer and a drummer? Ryan plays guitar. And sings. And writes music (I'll get back to that). Uber talent happening. Oh! And Ansley plays guitar. And sings. And writes. And shakes a mean tambourine.
First off, I wanna give props to the both of them, because the constant touring has really seasoned/perfected their performing skills. They radiated a smooth confidence. And Ansley's voice is BETTER than a year ago. I didn't know it could get better, but it sure did. Her voice was flawless.

The set was early Christmas for me. They played songs from their first album: Spain, Cherokee, You Us Hey, Fiji Bop.  Here's Cherokee below Or CLICK HERE FOR BIG VIEWING.

They also performed a few covers: Tracy Chapman's Give Me One Reason, Jewel's Hands, Dixie Chicks' Traveling Solider, Simon and Garfunkel's Mrs. Robinson, and Journey's Don't Stop Believing.
Here is Ansley playing guitar and giving me one more reason to love her. (if you didn't get it, below is Ansley covering Tracy Chapman. Watch below Or CLICK HERE FOR BIG VIEWING.

A clever and fun part of the show consisted of "Battle of the Emos." Translated means, Ryan and Ansley performed songs they wrote back in high school. It was fun to glimpse into their tortured teenage souls. Watch below or CLICK HERE FOR BIG VIEWING

Finally, they performed a few songs from the upcoming album. I'm scratching my eyes out waiting to get my hands on that album!! The already crowd favorite Purple Poppies was even better acoustically. I'm mad at myself for not getting that on video. Uh Oh, their current single, was fab. But, it was the song Magnolia Parade that gave me chills. I need that song. Ansley's voice was like milky, bluesy heart break with a side of panache. CLICK HERE FOR BIG VIEWING

To end the show, and to my up most excitement, they performed Anthem. Written by Ryan (told ya I'd get back to his writing skills) the song is it's title. I've heard the studio version and it. is. epic. The song is actually on my repeat daily playlist of songs I'm addicted to. So, yeah, I peed my pants a little when they started the song. Watch below Or CLICK HERE FOR BIG VIEWING

It was an amazing show and I'm sad for those who didn't get out to see it. That was stupid of you. I hope they do another acoustic set in the future. I'll be there. Front row. Smiling like a child with toys.
Special props to my hubby, Rob Senska, for holding steady and filming these performances with our tiny iphones. He's the awesomest!

"Try" and so we all will

P!nk. I tend to get all jumbley in my words when I speak of her. I've been listening to her for about a decade and she's never steered me wrong. In fact, she just gets better and better. I just wrote about her a few posts back, so I won't gush too much.
Today she released a new video for the song "Try" from the album "The Truth About Love." I'll be honest. The song hadn't grabbed my attention as much as some of the others, but after this video, I'm full blown obsessed. Someone needs to put this woman on So You Think You Can Dance pronto. Really. This 33 year old woman had a baby a year ago! You will all understand my words as soon as you watch the video.
I am providing a link to the video, cause it's too cool to be viewed small.
Watch it big and marvel.

Obsessive Music

After 7 years of emptiness, Fiona Apple filled me up again. June 19th she released The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.
Have I been pleased? Oh yes oh yes! Plus, I'm on the count down to see her live in Nashville TN. Only 6 days left..... :)
Like all Fiona albums, I listen to each song over and over and over. And every time I find something new and wonderful within each song.
I'm picking Hot Knife to share today because, for me, it is the biggest surprise on the album. It. Is. Superb.
Can't listen? Click Here.

Sometimes I give Fiona a rest and listen to other music. Here is some music that is currently in my rotation.

First, is Some Nights Intro by Fun. You all know Fun. from their overplayed hit We are Young.  I liked that song enough to check out their album, which is very Queen-esque. But my favorite is the first two tracks. I do believe that Some Nights is their current single. There is a video and such, but it's the Intro that fucking rocks. And it just so happens that their is a video for that too!!!
I literally cannot listen to it just once. At least twice, but usually three times in a row. It just grabs me.
Favorite lyric: Waiting for catastrophes, imagine when they scare me
Into changing whatever it is I am changing into...

Can't view it? Click Here.

Next song I blame Kelly Clarkson. She sang it on Duets and now I can't stop singing it. Sometimes the country comes out of me and I just let swing free. So Thanks Kelly for introducing me to Miranda Lambert's Mama's Broken Heart.  This song is fun. Listen closely to the first line second verse as she pronounces Baptist with a sweet disgust. Masterful.
 Can't listen? Click Here.

Lastly is the sugar pop crack that I'm addicted to. Makes me wanna dance, sing, and pretend I have a size 2 ass. I first heard this song about 3 months ago and it is STILL my happy go to song. And the video is memorizing. Kat Graham's Put Your Graffit on Me. I know I've put this video up here before, but I don't think it got across to you all. So Check It Out!
