Tim Burton's best directing in years....

The Killers have been churning out music videos like they really believe the world will end. I'm very alright with this.
I recently featured The Killers video for "I feel it in my Bones" which rocked my wicked little world.
Now, The Killers have released a video for "Here With Me." I love this song. I love the video. Directed by Tim Burton. I think this to be Tim's best directing in years. I feel an ode to the classic movie Harold and Maude in this video featuring Winona Ryder.
Watch, enjoy the story and the song. And for those of you that may have written off The Killers, give their latest album a chance. It's pretty good.

 

Best of Lyrical and Music Videos 2012: Why Not Mindy Style

Growing up and getting a new album on tape the first thing I would do is listen to the album while reading along with the lyrics. My brain wasn't clever enough to pick up on every word without seeing  it. And then somewhere in the mid 90's to the mid 2000's it became "uncool" to include the lyrics with the album. There was this whole transition into digital music and the written word got lost for a bit. Now in days it's easy to find the lyrics to almost any song you want by simply googling it. I thank the universe and all the wonderful geeks who took the time to make my life happier. 
And now we are on a trend of lyric videos before the actual video is released. I am a sucker for these. I couldn't be happier. I watch them all. Even if I don't particularly like the song, there maybe some wonderful lines that occur. I'm in love with this trend. I hope it lasts. Music videos have found their way to last. Thanks again internet.
As the year closes I'd like to give some of my favorite lyrical videos and music videos of 2012.

- Shiny Toy Guns "Somewhere to Hide"

-  Taylor Swift "We are never getting back together"   This lyric video could have been the music video, it's clever and cute, like her damn song.

-  Calvin Harris "Drinking from the Bottle"

-  Ke$ha "Die Young"

There is an art form behind these lyric videos. Just putting the words on the screen won't work anymore. The bar has been raised. I look forward to 2013 to see who makes my eyes happy. Did you have a favorite lyric video that I missed?

MUSIC VIDEOS

I'm a believer that favorite music videos are about opinions and one's own matter of taste. So don't get all up in a hussy if I pick music videos that don't suit your fancy. These are the videos that I played more than 5 times during the year of 2012. 

- Fun. "Some Nights Intro" I could play this every day and be happy. 

- P!nk "Try"  Hands down one of the best videos of the year. 

- Muse "Madness"  *sigh* I love this song

- Kat Graham "Put Your Graffiti on Me"  - The hottest video that not enough people saw.

- Paloma Faith "Just Be" - Beautiful. Romantic. Lovely.

- Fiona Apple "Every Single Night" 

- Lana Del Rey "Ride" - Extended Version - This video is hands down my number one re-watched video. The whole 10 minutes. I love the poetry bookends and the romantic notion of just riding.

The Killers' new 'Christmas' video :) "I Feel it in my Bones" and Prince. What a Wednesday!

Christmas music grates my nerves. The older I get, the more stores I frequent, the more I want to take a machine gun and blast away the speakers that keep demanding happy joy joy. So imagine me when I watched the video below. I got a warm fuzzy all over. Thank you Killers for this demented, lovely story telling music video. Bravo. PS. watch till the end. The entire end.
OH! also want to give a special happy note to the beginning of the song that is very reminiscent of Bon Jovi's opening of Livin' on a Prayer. Makes me smile.

AND! Prince has a new song and video that is perfect jam music. Prince can do no wrong and I think he doesn't age. Check out his music video!

Finding NEW in Zee Avi

I LOVE finding new music! I think I might of stumbled across a gem. Name: Zee Avi : 25-year-old Malaysian singer/songwriter. She has a voice that reminds you of simpler times. Soothing, effortless. She lands in the world where your parents could love her and you (the kid) can still feel okay with loving her too.

Morning Music Videos: For that Hump day

I didn't know Trent Reznor had a new project with Atticus Ross and a beautiful woman. Did you? 

Well this new venture is called How to Destroy Angels. The following video from them is called Ice Age. I'm digging this folksiness and I'm in love with the vocals. Check it out below or go HERE and check out the video and their homepage. 
 

Second discovery of the day is a sister band called HAIM. Talented girls rocking out new wave style. I got excited listening/watching them. We don't have enough legitimate women rockers with a flare for the 80's. Check out their video for Don't Save Me. Watch below or click HERE for big version

Lastly, I have to include Will.i.am ft. Britney Spears song Scream & Shout. It's a good club song. Also, Britney is channeling Madonna's British accent and it makes me happy for some reason. Not everything is explainable. The video is just fine. I bet this song makes it onto a lot of workout playlists. Watch below or Click HERE 

 

Weekend Music Videos: 3

This fine weekend deserves a little kick back music video watching fun. I got three for ya. 
The first and my favorite for the week, mostly because the song is a sexy mix of a bluesy, pop powerhouse vocals and 90's production,  is South African songstress  Nikki Williams' Kill, Fuck, Marry You. The title alone should be intriguing enough

Next, we have The Weekend's Wicked Games. This sexy slow jam has been on my favorite playlist for about a year. I was very happy to see a video release. The video is smooth and simple. And sexy. Mmmm.
Makes me wanna slow dance. I recommend The Weekend's House of balloons (Official Mixtape)as a nice kicked back R&B album. More Music coming from The Weekend super soon. :)

The last video comes from British ginger Ed Sheeran. The song "Give me Love" is nice and fine and I'll love it for now. I took a real liking to the video. I love story telling through music videos, and this story is neat. I smiled.

European MTV music awards: The ending is coming

I was once under the impression that everything European was more chic, less mainstream, and contained more talent per sq inch than America ever could. Of course, I'm directly referencing music here. But I was sorely disappointed with the European MTV Music Awards. Lose the accents and it may as well been American MTV.

Christina vs. Christina, Jimmy, & The Roots

Christina Aguilera 1st single from her upcoming album Lotus (hits itunes on Nov.13th) is called Your Body. It's a decent song, a fun video, everything you'd expect from Xtina. No real surprises. 
But then I saw Xtina, Jimmy Fallon, and The Roots perform the song using only office supplies. Spectacular. It also reminds us how great her voice really is and how talented real musicians are (The Roots).

"Try" and so we all will

P!nk. I tend to get all jumbley in my words when I speak of her. I've been listening to her for about a decade and she's never steered me wrong. In fact, she just gets better and better. I just wrote about her a few posts back, so I won't gush too much.
Today she released a new video for the song "Try" from the album "The Truth About Love." I'll be honest. The song hadn't grabbed my attention as much as some of the others, but after this video, I'm full blown obsessed. Someone needs to put this woman on So You Think You Can Dance pronto. Really. This 33 year old woman had a baby a year ago! You will all understand my words as soon as you watch the video.

P!nk's music video Try 

"Put your Graffiti on me"

I refuse to talk about what I think this song means. I don't really care, cause it makes me move. I only want to focus on, well, the cow bell. I freaking love the use of the cow bell in this song. And of course, Kat Graham rocks it. She is mesmerizing. Girl deserves to be on TV cause I believe she's got that "it" factor. Some of you may recognize her from The Vampire Diaries, which has had a damn good season! I believe this girl will be bigger than The Vampire Diaries. Just wait. Check her video. Also, around the 1:50 mark the song takes a momentary pause away from the dance beat and delivers something oddly wonderful.

Maria Mena new video.....brings out all the happy inside me.

If you read this blog more than once a month than you know my extreme love for Maria Mena. 
I'm super happy to share with you all her new music video.
The song? Viktoria. This song slowly rose to become a favorite of mine. 
"Have you ever heard me laugh so easily? It's cause I'm growing up slowly." 
 Maybe at 32 I shouldn't connect so vitally with that lyric, but I do. Cause I'm slow, but damn steady.  Or this lyric
"Me and my confidence, we're now more than friends, We're growing up slowly."
Maria is a power lyricist.

Also, Viktoria is Maria's middle name.
This song would never make it in America. Too thoughtful, strange pacing, interesting message. And these are the reasons I love it so.

Wheels are turning, gearing up Director style.

So this week I'm directing a music video for my Favorite local band Super Water Sympathy. I've blogged about this band a bunch! And now I'm blessed, along with my working partner and husband, to be producing, directing, and shooting a music video.

Best music videos 2011 : How Mindy sees it.

I'm a child of music videos. I grew up and came of age all while watching music videos. In high school, when I couldn't sleep I would put on CMT and watch country music videos because there was always a story being shown and it always lulled me to sleep. I'm not a big lover of country music, but music videos still reign supreme. 
So, as I countdown the best music videos, keep in mind, it's not always about the song!

10. Adele "Someone Like You" and "Rolling in the Deep"
She gave us two amazing songs and two amazing videos.

9. Eminem - "Spacebound" Great, beautiful storytelling.

8. Coldplay "Paradise"

7. Kanye West "Monster" This is the song that finally turned me on to Kanye. Might be my most obsessive song of the year. And when I try to sing Nicki's part, I just get happy. "I'm a motherfuckin' Monster!"

6. Kesha "Blow" This video 'blew' my mind. Unicorns and Dawson Leery? Yes, please!

5. Robyn "Call Your Girlfriend"  This video is absolutely incredible. It's one long take. 

4. The Lonely Island "Jack Sparrow"  Two words: Michael Bolton

3. Rihanna "We found a love"  I just love this drug induced love affair gone bad music video. It's seductive and bad for me. :)

2. Rachael Yamagata "Even If I don't"  Rachael's best video thus far. Cheeky, sad, happy. Everything the song is.

1. Beastie Boys "Make Some Noise"  !!!!!!So many Cameos!!!! and the Delorean! Sold. Also, Fight for your Right video was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I thought it was hands down the coolest thing ever.
