The Holidays. They come sweeping in, something akin to a mass hysteria with the shopping, traffic, and the changing of a year. My TV shows take a pause. Movies become "Oscar Worthy," and my Entertainment Weekly's get lost in the mail. All in all, my routine is thrown into a blender. And now it's over.
I'm happy 2013 is here. It will be an epic year for me. I'll be launching my new site: www.whynotmindy.com, making a short film, and making my very first feature film. There are other projects along the way and in between. This is the year. The changing year. But, not to worry, I'll still be blogging about TV, music, and movies. Speaking of TV...
What better way to start my 2013 TV viewing experience, than with the masterful American Horror Story: Asylum. Yeah, I said masterful, because January 2nd's episode was one for the books. It was a doozy. A jaw dropping piece of work that had me shouting, "That's how you start a new year, Motherf***er!" I, again, am not into spoilers or rehashing the episode, so I won't, kind of. So if you haven't watched the episode yet, stop reading....
Jessica Lange's character singing the "The Name Game." Wow. Ryan Murphy made glee happen inside the Asylum. And it was joyous, for that split moment.
That scene is also Ryan Murphy's tease of what he wants to do for season 3, calling it "Evil Glamour." If that is, indeed, his theme for season 3, then I'm as excited for it as I am Season 3 of Homeland or season 8(?) of Dexter (what will Deb do??)
Ryan Murphy you get my trophy. You took me on a roller coaster of hate and love and intrigue. I hate you so much I love you. Or vice versa. Welcome all to 2013.

Question for those watching : AHS
Warning! Spoilers below. If you are not completely caught up with American Horror Story Asylum, then you may want to stop reading and go watch cartoons.
If you are watching American Horror Story Asylum, then I have one question: what happened after the school kids and teacher nun found the amputated girl climbing the steps?
I'm sorry to miss lead, cause I'm gonna ask more questions.
How can that story line be completely abandoned? We are 3, 4 episodes past that and there has been ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION of the 'created monster'. Poor story telling? Or is this juggernaut that brings down the nazi, demon run Briarcliff?
Moving on from the obvious story holes, I will say I loved the crazy Santa, he actually scared me. I say take his story and make a movie. Then, of course, release it on Christmas Day. When was the last time you saw a movie on Christmas about a serial killer dressed as Santa that murders only during the holidays? Sounds like some naughty fun to me.
Last question: I'd love to hear from you guys, is American Horror Story Asylum good scary fun or a tangled piece of story telling that brings in the obvious scary with Demons, Nazis, and aliens?

American Horror Story, I am now on board.
I've been hard on American Horror Story Asylum. I freely admit it. I had my head set that this "season" should connect with "season 1."
Perhaps if I had started Asylum with an open mind, my disappointment wouldn't have been so high.
Something happen last night during the latest episode, I found myself enjoying the show. AND, I almost got scared.
American Horror Story has been renewed for a third "season." I keep using quotes on the word season because I'm still unsure how this show fits into the norm of serialized shows.
There I go again trying to box up this show into something tidy. It just isn't. It's doing something new and I accept that now. After letting go of my preconceived notions of HOW I thought the show should run its course, I realized I was on the wrong course.
Week to week I've bitched about the show, but I sure was filled with anticipation for each episode.
Maybe it was last nights episode that turned me upside down, spanked my bottom, and yelled "This is the track, get on or get gone."
So, I'm on. Full out on board.
As far as Season 3 is concerned, Jessica Lange has already committed. No other words just yet on the other actors. I'm curious to where and when the next installment takes place.
I said before that Ryan Murphy is excellent at Season 1s. That's what he's doing, is it not? I think he found the way to be awesome at the same show every year; keep the title, the theme, but change the story. Sophomore slump avoided. Bravo Ryan. Bravo.

Bonus of being sick.
Being sick sucks. We all know that. But I'm not going to harbor on that, instead, I'm gonna write about all the good that came from being sick all week (thus far).
1. God Bless Netflix. Because of Netflix I was able to discover a new show that I'm totally addicted to: Scandal. Even the name envokes a bit of happiness while on the couch coughing and sneezing. The first season is just merely 7 episodes. Needless to say, I watched them all in one day. Bonus of being sick.
2. The next day, I was able to catch up on Season 2 of Scandal, all 4 episodes. Now I'm current and cannot wait for the next episode. Bonus of being sick.
3. I get to eat ice cream guilt free. Cause when your throat feels like broken glass, ice cream is always acceptable and no pounds are gained. Bonus of being sick.
4. While sick and bored, you have all the time in the world to scour the internet. Things I've learned: LA passed a bill that now requires the porn industry to use condoms during filming. Sounds logical? Not so much, b/c in San Fernando Valley they already are extremely safe with regular testing, etc. And with condoms involved, consumers are less likely to purchase that porn. Cause, let's face it, consumers don't want to see latex, they have their own lives to see that. Porn is fantasy. Condoms are reality. I have a hunch the major Porn industry will find another state to film. Louisiana has great tax incentives. I laugh even as I type that. Could you imagine the bible thumpers if the porn industry came to Louisiana? Lol. I thought about all that. Bonus of being sick.
5. My puppy and kitty snuggled me daily, for hours. They tried to make me feel better. Bonus of being sick.
6. I was able to give American Horror Story the 4 episode test. Bonus of being sick? I don't know. I've made my thoughts on this second season very apparent. Those thoughts mostly consisted of dislike boardering on hatred. Then came along Anne Frank. It's so ridiculous I don't know how to feel anymore. I will say, episode 4 was better than it's 3 predecessors. And because I'm a TV junkie, I'll keep watching, waiting for a perfect puzzle to fall into place so I can sit back and say "Wow. THAT was TV history." But I believe I'm just daydreaming. Bonus of being sick.

American blah de blah blah
I generally ripped apart episode of 1 of American Horror Story, now for episode two, I'm, uh, just blah.
It didn't annoy me as much as the first episode, but the number one thing missing: being scared.
Let's venture back to the man in the rubber suit. Weren't we all a little scared and yet so intrigued by him? Now we have James Cromwell as a demented Dr./scientist that probably gets his knickers off to bounding and killing women. Where's the intrigue in that? And for me, there was nothing scary about his overtness. But I did get a giggle by the way he held his junk. It seemed so forced, pun intended.
Good point: I enjoyed the demon possession and getting a little back story on the ever so bitchy Sister Jude. I even more enjoyed the transfer of the demon to the ever so lovely virgin nun. AND I will enjoy watching that demon torment James Cromwell using the innocent flesh of a virgin to hopefully bring out his beast for the world to see. All in all, I still have hope, but it's still no Season 1.
Oh the comparisons we have to live up to. Sucks for you Murphy. Remember season 1 of Nip/Tuck? yep! And then it all went down hill. And even with Glee, season 1 soared, and the following seasons are still trying to live up that. Is Ryan Murphy great at just season 1 shows? That's my question to you, my dear readers. Is Ryan Murphy like champagne? Drink it all quickly, cause it soon will go flat.

Something got trapped in an American Asylum. It might of been my brain.
American Horror Story Asylum. That's the proper title for this, miniseries, season, chapter? I don't know what to properly call it, probably cause this new format of storytelling, is in fact, new.? Yes, I add a question mark because, well...the picture below shows my face as I watched last nights episode.
That's my confused face. I'll also have a neck cramp. Notice the extreme head tilt? It's like my brain is forcing my head to one side or the other in hopes of understanding.
Now, if you haven't seen last year's American Horror Story, then stop reading, cause I may give spoilers. If you don't care or don't plan to watch, then please continue reading.
Number 1. There are returning characters. Or is it just returning actors? I don't really know yet. Cause this season they speak like they live in Boston. And because it is 50 years earlier, the characters act different. This blonde girl; confused.
Number 2. Aliens? Really? You're opening with Aliens? Wait Stop. I'm sorry. You actually open with Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine sexing up his new bride in haunted houses. Demented, but I kinda liked it. Back to the aliens. Yes. Aliens. I just got all "WHAT THE FUCK?!" in the first 10 minutes and the WTF moment kinda did a tale spin down into that stupid asylum.
Number 3. The more I write about it, the more I know, I did not like this beginning. I'm still open for answers and connections, but I don't have that same feeling I did when I watch last year's first episode.
Were my expectations too high, you may ask? No. BECAUSE I never watched a promo. I avoided trailers, teasers, interviews. I wanted this new story to unfold without cliff notes. Also, I wasn't too excited knowing that this chapter, season, part II, was taking place in an asylum. Seemed a bit too obvious for a show about haunted houses and dead people that appear alive.
Deep down I still believe that in a few more episodes (maybe 5) the puzzle pieces will fit together and my furrowed brow will turn into raised eyebrows and widened eyes.
But, like Taco Bell at 2 am, I'm cautious.
Aliens? REally?
You got some explain' to do Mr. Murphy!
